Truth Pursuit

Here are some initial resources designed to answer questions commonly asked by university/college students and young adults.

Biblical faith is not blind. It has substance, evidence, and a reliable object. Biblical faith is in harmony with true science; that is, science rooted in the pursuit of what is true.

It has been said that the existence of God cannot be proved. That is false. The evidence is all around you.

The key obstacle to faith is unbelief; a person cannot be convinced against their will. That is a central theme of the Bible. The problem started with unbelief in the Garden of Eden. For those who refuse to believe God, their problem will never end.

This page is for those people who have just not yet seen or heard the evidence. We have all been there.

Missions is the most important topic for understanding purpose. This is because God's purpose is to bring to Himself all people who are willing to believe what He said. He told us to go tell everyone.

Truth vs Certainty

Those who pursue truth may have a change of opinion about what is true when confronted with evidence that contradicts their firmly held beliefs.

Those who pursue certainty over truth will overlook obvious facts that do not conform to the ideas they hold to be certain. They might only look to find facts which uphold the ideas that they already believe to be true. They often discard obvious evidence contrary to those beliefs.

True Christianity is the most tolerant of all belief systems because it is based upon the pursuit of truth, which is ultimately found in the Author of truth and His written word. Christians can accept the people of other religions, realizing that every Christian was in unbelief also until the truth was recognized.

What is truth? When Pontius Pilate asked this question Jesus had already given His disciples the answer. Truth is found first and foremost in believing Him. John 14:6

The door to the truth is the will, not the intellect. A person who is not looking for truth will not see it, because he is not looking for it.

"A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still."

Is the Bible Trustworthy?

Everybody believes somebody. Is our trusted source reliable? There are only two sources for truth: God and everyone else. Which authority is your anchor for knowing what is true?

Many beliefs do not match what the Bible teaches at face value due to interpretation, context, cultural misunderstanding, outright lies, and the drift of language and culture over time.

Bible Foundations

Every person who now has faith in Jesus Christ didn't. None of us were there when God created everything or when Jesus rose from the dead.

God wrote a book. As our Creator and Master Author, there are things He wants us to know that transcend generations. He inspired more than 40 human authors over 1400 years of history.

There was a time in each of our lives when we did not believe in God, the Bible, or the identity of Jesus Christ. We did not know any of this until someone told us.

We should never assume that Bible foundations have been given to another person. One of the best ways to find out where people have gaps in their understanding is to teach them God's word from beginning to end. stilluntold.org/basis

"The beauty of the Chronological Bible Teaching system is this: you don't have to argue a person into believing the Bible. If they listen, they will understand it." — John Cross, Now We See Clearly

The best resource for laying Biblical foundations intentionally is the Firm Foundations series produced by Ethnos360. Interlocked is an excellent adaptation for young people. Establish Series is the first part of the Firm Foundations series.

Five Key Arguments (TACO & Faith):

  • Teleological – Intelligent design / fine-tuning of the universe
  • Anthropological – The argument of morals
  • Cosmological – The argument of beginnings
  • Ontological – The argument of being
  • Faith – If a moral Creator exists outside time, space, and matter, He is capable of communicating His existence and purpose

The Identity, Deity, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ

One of the great evidences of the resurrection of Jesus Christ is that two thousand years later we are still talking about it — and the global Church still exists after two thousand years of opposition.

No amount of evidence can convince a person to believe. Kinds of evidence for the resurrection include written testimony, eyewitness testimony, hostile testimony, extra-biblical historical records, archeological evidence, prophetic evidence, and the transformation of Saul into Paul.

Creation vs Evolution

Value of Human Life

If God knew each person by name before the first day of Creation, then each person has greater value to God than anything in or on the earth. God created us for an eternal relationship with Him — what we do here matters immensely.

Heaven and Hell

The most important question to ask about eternal destiny is: Who Says? Once you have established your source for truth, everyone else is just a messenger.

We believe that God, as the Creator and Owner of everything and everybody, is the final authority, and that He has made His thoughts available to us in the Holy Bible.

About Hell: the cultural version of "hell" is often not the same thing as described in the Bible. "Death" is separation — physical, spiritual, and eternal (Revelation 20:11-15). Jesus told the story of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19-31) as a glimpse into the state of those who rejected God's grace.

About Heaven: there is a lot of misunderstanding about what God has planned for people who believe Him.
